Rajasthan, India's desert state was once a collection of princely kingdoms, where feudal traditions still carry on amidst forts and palace hotels. The capital city Jaipur was stronghold a clan of rulers whose three hill forts and series of palaces in the city are important attractions. Known as the Pink City because of the colour of the stone used exclusively in the walled city. Jaipur's bazars sell embroidered leather shoes, blue pottery, tie and dye scarves, and other exotic wares. Western Rajasthan itself forms a convenient circuit in the heart of the Thar Desert, which has shaped its history, lifestyles and architecture. Jodhpur's exquisitely lovely fort, now a museum; deco royal palace converted into a hotel; and quaint markets, all vividly testify to the history the princely state. Udaipur and its environs are another facet of Rajasthan. Far from bing surrounded by flat arid desert, Udaipur is situated in the lap of thickly wooded Aravali Hills. Three lakes form an attraction of the city whose focal point is the towering cluster of honey coloured palaces that go up the complex of the City Palace and other palatial apartments.

ITINERARY

Day 1:

Arrive Delhi. On arrival, assistance and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2:

After breakfast, sightseeing tour of Old Delhi including historic Red Fort; the Jama Masjid India's Latgest mosque; Rajghat - the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. In New Delhi visit Humayun's Tomb, Quatab minar, India Gate and a drive past the President House, Secretariat Building. Optional Tour - Dances of India or Son et Lumaire Show at the Old Fort. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Delhi - Jaipur (By Surface 256kms/6hrs)

After breakfast, drive from Delhi to Jaipur. Arrive Jaipur and check-in at hotel. Afternoon, sightseeing tour of Pink City Jaipur, visit the city Palace, blend of Mughal and Rajasthani Architecture is now a museum, containing all the paraphernalia of Jaipur's princely past. Jaisingh, notable astronomer, built for himself the curious Jantar Mantar, an observatory of immense brick and mortar instruments of astonishing accuracy. Not far from the Jantar Mantar, is the beautiful Hawa Mahal (palace of winds), tall and pink, faced with delicate pierced stone, it is not really a palace. The queens of Jaipur and the royal ladies once used this decorative facade to watch, unobserved, numerous festive processions winding through the streets of their city. Overnight stay.

Day 4: Jaipur - Jodhpur (By Train):

Morning free for shopping or leisure. Afternoon, transfer to Jaipur Railway Station for express train to Jodhpur. Arrive Jodhpur, assistance at railway station and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel. Day 5: Jodhpur: After breakfast, leave for a Jodhpur tour. Visit Mehrangarh Fort - the 5 kms long majestic fort on a 125 meter high hill is one of the most impressive and formidable structures. Jaswant Thada - a cluster of royal cenotaphs built in 1899 AD in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh-II. Within the main cenotaph are the portraits of various Jodhpur rulers. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Jodhpur :

After breakfast, leave for a Jodhpur tour. Visit Mehrangarh Fort - the 5 kms long majestic fort on a 125 meter high hill is one of the most impressive and formidable structures. Jaswant Thada - a cluster of royal cenotaphs built in 1899 AD in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh-II. Within the main cenotaph are the portraits of various Jodhpur rulers. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6: Jodhpur - Udaipur (By Surface 280kms/7hrs)

After breakfast drive to Udaipur visiting Ranakpur Jain temples - renowned for some marvellously carved Jain temples in amber stone, Ranakpur is one of the five holy places of the Jain community. Continue drive to Udaipur. On arrival check-in at the hotel, overnight stay.

Day 7: Udaipur:

After breakfast, we will explore Udaipur - the city of dawn. Udaipur is a lovely land around the azure water lakes, hemmed in by the lush hills of the Aravalis. A vision in white drenched in romance and beauty. Udaipur is a fascinating blend of sights, sounds and experience an inspiration for the imagination of poets, painters and writers. Its kaleidoscope of fairy-tale palaces, lakes, temples, gardens and narrow lanes strewn with stalls, carry the flavour of a heroic past, epitomising valour and chivalry. Their reflection in the placid waters of the lake Pichola is an enticing sight. Visit City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Sahelion-ki-Bari, Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum. Afternoon, boat ride on lake Pichola - two island palaces, Jag Mandir and Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) on the lake are of breathtaking magnificence. Overnight stay.

Day 8: Udaipur / Mumbai (By Air):

Morning excursion to Eklingji and Nadga Temples. Later transfer for flight to Mumbai.
